Island rules of thumb
🚗 Drive on the LEFT. One highway runs the island — hard to get lost. Potholes, pedestrians, goats, zero streetlights: no night driving if you can avoid it.
⛽ Gas is ~2× US prices and stations are sparse — fill up before any long day.
💵 US dollars accepted 1:1 everywhere. Many places are cash-only. ATMs: First Caribbean & RBC, both in Governor's Harbour.
💧 Don't drink the tap water — buy gallons or swap 5-gal bottles at stores/gas stations.
🦟 Mosquitoes + no-see-ums at sunset. DEET for the first, Avon Skin So Soft for the second.
🌉 Glass Window Bridge: the ONLY road link between north and central Eleuthera. It closes in big Atlantic swells (~4–5×/year, 2–3 days at a time) — if seas are up, confirm it's open before a North Eleuthera / Harbour Island / ELH-airport day. Getting to Harbour Island
Drive/taxi to Three Island Dock (North Eleuthera) → water taxi $5/person each way, running all day to ~9 PM, no booking → rent a golf cart at the dock (~$40/day, cash) → Pink Sands Beach. Full Pink Sands guide →
